Goodbye 2010

Hello floppy fans,

Before 2011 begins tomorrow (scary stuff), thought I'd give a quick review of 2010, and update everyone with where Diskette Etikette is at the moment.

Firstly, since the last update on here we've had two awesome new releases:

DER014 Toxic Chicken - Green Flop

3 tracks of bonkers electro, descending into sweet sweet lo-bit noise at the end, from Bangkok resident Kai Nobuko, aka Toxic Chicken. 15 copies only, get in quick!

DER011 Fm-Ra & jjoth - Impossible Worlds Remixed

Our first remix release! Remixes of an EP released in the summer on SPNet, with Fabiorosho and Darkslider on remix duty. 4 tracks of ambient synthscapes and dystopic post-industrial soundscapes twisted and distorted into new sounds for your enjoyment. 25 copies.

Both releases are available now from our shop (http://disketteetikette.bigcartel.com) or by emailing neil.jennings84@googlemail.com.

This means that our first year as a label saw 14 fabulous releases, all but two of which are still available. A massive thanks to all the artists involved, and all the other artists, labels and lovely people who offered help, advice, artwork, or anything else over the past 9 months! And thanks to everyone who bought, stole or traded anything!

Having survived the first year of operations, 2011 looks to be even more exciting.

Releases are coming up very soon from Sascha Muller (techno), Ciderfiend (powerviolence), bjerga/iversen (minimal drone), Te Lloraria Un Puto Rio (screamo) and Graffiti Mechanism (mnml), more info soon. And this will take us up to DER020, which will be the second in our "Now That's What I Call Retro-Futurism" compilation series. Submissions are being taken for this, anything goes, just make sure files are under 200kb in size!

Further in to the future, we will have some very special releases, including a DER t-shirt, some extremely limited edition releases that will come with their own floppy disk drive, a 5 1/2" floppy release, and maybe a further cd-r release on DER-Extra.

Exciting times, I hope you'll join us!

Finally, a quick run down of our highlights and lowlights of 2010

Highlights: lo-bit, obsolete formats, micro-labels, internet hip-hop, Witch House, ATP, Wire magazine, screamo zines, awesome tapes from Africa, Avaaz, Apopo, front & follow, 6 Music, everything DIY.

Lowlights: Apple, lack of money, printer ink running out half way through print jobs, postage costs, Rupert Murdoch, Tory scum, Lib Dem hypocrisy, lazy cd-r labels, record shops closing, not being reviewed by Wire.
